It’s been a while since I’ve been able to get out into the blogiversosphere. Maybe it’s been too long for you too? Jump back in with these fantastic design posts from the past few weeks:
Jacob at Just Creative Design recently launched a new feature, Designer in the Spotlight and has featured four designers so far; Brian Yerkes, Albert Lo, Fabio Sasso and most recently Kate McInnes have offered their creative processes and portfolio pieces up for us to oogle. Keep up with these posts via the tag Designer in the Spotlight.
Everyone from doodlage to Poppy Talk is featuring the 2009 calendars that are coming out! Awesome!
The Wolda 2008 Logo Awards have been announced and they are meeting with some quite mixed reviews.
Now granted, according to one of the commentors (and an entrant and winner overall of the Wolda competition), only 1,100 logos were entered into this competition! Jason’s perspective is definitely worth a read if you are on the same bandwagon as Heller.
Leading an In-House Design Team is well articulated and completely relevant to me as a struggling in-house designer (I don’t mean that in a money way, but in a principles way). Based on the comments from my own article on the subject, I know many of you readers would benefit from perusing this article as well. I only wish the comments on the site were open so I could tell Shawn thank you for his advice and wisdom!
The above topic was started by this post on Cameron Moll’s site. Be careful of getting sucked into the comments! 99.9% of them have legit complaints and probably ones you can relate to, so you may find yourself a bit depressed at the end.
More wisdom from Eric on his latest Random Observations, Part 3. Be sure to check out Part 1 and Part 2 as well. Eric has a way of putting things so bluntly, but his words are spot on. No BS from him!
New InDesign CS4 features are up! Take a cruise through all the cool stuff they added:
- The official InDesign CS4 New Features documentation
- A quick video running down most of the big new stuff (oooo GERP styles!) from The InDesigner
- And where would we be without an entire podcast devoted to InDesign CS4 from InDesign Secrets? Oh, and a written article, too.
- Lynda.com has some freebie tutorial videos and feature overviews for InDesign CS4 as well.
Esben added some links that he wants us to check out too (me included, so I get some fun reading my own post! Cool!):
- iPleadtheFirst is a new design blog I really like is and Andy’s a newcomer.
- NYPL Digital Gallery
- 20 Colorful Concert Posters
Oh and one last link from me (Lauren): Nikon Small World. It’s a site dedicated to microscopic photography (hey Kris!! Check it out!). It’s actually a competition that has been around since the 70s, and this year they opened up the vote to us! Hurry if you want to participate, it ends today (October 10th).

Thanks a lot for featuring my site in this article, you have quite an extensive blog here! keep up the good work!

Andy,
You’re most welcome!
Eivind,
If you read nothing else, I would highly recommend Eric’s Random Observations. Happy reading!
Thanks for the links out Lauren, you can also follow DITS in the category too, rather than by Tag but same difference I suppose.
