Paper is pretty.
Ok, so maybe I’m just weird, but I love getting paper sample books in the mail. With all the digital processes today, it’s so nice to hold something and feel its texture and warmth.
The paper swatch books usually have a section in them for performance, where they have samples of how the paper performs under different conditions—foil stamping, metallic ink, embossing, etc. I’ve even seen samples printed with a letterpress! Can you imagine how fun it would be to design these books?
How would you design an eye-catching and creative invitation?
I thought it would be cool to present you with a real-world project I’m dealing with right now. I need you help! Let’s have a creative session in the comments.
I need ideas for a creative invitation for an upscale meeting/conference in Palm Beach, Florida. The ideas I need have more to do with presentation than actual artistic style, so I don’t need ideas like ‘do a watercolor painting’ or ‘have palm trees on the front.’ What I do need are interesting components.
Have you ever seen a design that looks so absolutely perfect all you can do is stand in awe of its aesthetic qualities? What is it about those pieces that make them so visually stunning? And, more importantly, how can YOU create a design like this?
The answer is Proportion.

What is Proportion? Proportion can be recognized in several ways; it is the use of the design elements size and scale, evenly distributing the viewer’s attention and the use of the golden ratio.
