Retro Colors for Design Inspiration

By LaurenMarie

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good color inspiration post. So how about some retro inspiration?

Retro styles and colors seem to be making a comeback. I like them! What do you think?

I love the last poster personally, makes me want to buy some hairnets.
But then again, if they’re invisible how do you know where they are :S

I got those greetings cards today by the way, much appreciated.

Love the sharp lines and block colour on the Red Monroe poster, excellent collection - thanks!

    David,
Oh yay! Glad those arrived safely! Hehe, isn’t old packaging fun (and funny)?

    Lucinda,
I really like the red/green combination, too. It’s one of the few that doesn’t look Christmasy.

I want to return to old packaging!

I personally love the No Food > No People > No Party one. Quite witty.

Also, I am loving the resurgence of retro. I wasn’t around yet when the 60s/70s were here the first time, so it’s interesting to see today’s interpretation of it.

I too like the hair nets one. Also love the Space Animals. Great stuff!

I couldn’t get the Stumble link to work. Share This doesn’t seem to work either :(

Great article! I especially love the Safeway Superb Magic Crystals packaging.. I also quite like the Coke one, as all the colours are rather flat, except for the strokes of brilliant green and red on the clothes, as well as the Drink Coke badge

We had a rep from a paper company come to the studio recently who had some examples of cream stocks being used in booklets. They were just beautiful! It instantly gave this feeling of age and elegance — something retro. Cream stock + serif fonts is a total winner for me.

Some good palettes. Also proof that those who struggle with colour—me—can find inspiration for colour choice just about everywhere.

Love the pastels in the Nylons ad.

Neat!!! Unfortunately, color is one of my weakest links… But I know what I like when I see it, and it seems you did the hard work of picking for us here ;)
