That is the point of masks, you <em>hide</em> things, not delete them so you can always go back later to make adjustments. I’m very new to Photoshop (CS2) and have a question regarding the “Channels for Precise Masks” section above: Did you at some point delete the original sky behind the pine branches before copying and pasting the entire canvas in the layer mask? I became confused when I saw the transparent checkerboard pattern background.
