I think your method is probably better than mine Esben It might just discourage people who find it too labour intensive

I might try your method next time though – it would probably result in a more succinct tutorial.

how I make a tutorial:

Find a subject thats interesting and useful for most people, something that goes through a couple of tools, thats essential.

Make the artwork, try explaining it inside your own head and break down your method at the same time – then delete everything.

Start writing, while you draw, code and take screenshots and try documenting the process.

It works for me.. the second part is the one where I get to learn to be efficient.. its like playing a computer game, repeating the same task over and over again.

So actually I learn to fine tune my Illustrator abilities, by writing these tutorials.

Hamish – sometimes if I’m thinking of writing a tutorial I just take screenshots of my work through the process and write it up later. I’m not sure if it’s a good way to go, but it interrupts the process a bit less
