The ALA site does work very well and I like how they use up multiple columns for the articles, too. I also like how they leave almost the whole left-most column empty; it makes the layout clean and it draws attention to the logo. I think it's great that they use the same grid structure throughout the site, which contributes to the uniformity, yet the section pages are different enough that you can tell you're somewhere else but still with the same organization. They did a great job and it's a <em>perfect</em> example of an effective and strategic use of the grid. Thanks David! I particularly like how the article pages allow for a wider text column than the home page, placing more emphasis on the text.
